The air quality in Nainital has started to improve following the Deepawali celebrations. The pollution in the air had increased threefold before the festival and the fireworks on the occasion increased the pollution levels fourfold. The particulate matter (PM 2.5) was measured between 34 and 39 microgramme per cubic metre. The air quality is expected to improve further in the coming days. Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) senior scientist Narendra Singh said that the PM 2.5 is nearing normal levels in the city. The slight rise in the wind activity has also helped disperse the air pollution here.
