ATLANTA (WRBL) — The Georgia Department of Human Services announced on Friday that benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will not be available beginning November 1 due to the government shutdown.
According to DHS, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently alerted the department that there is insufficient funding to cover November benefits for recipients. USDA guidance cautions cards will not work beginning Nov. 1, 2025.
The government shutdown, currently on its 24th day, has no resolution in sight as both Republicans and Democrats remain firm on their demands.
The Georgia Department of Human Services says SNAP recipients can use the existing funds on their EBT cards. Individuals are advised to plan ahead and shop now for needed items.
