The iconic building in the White House complex was officially demolished Thursday to make room for President Donald Trump's new $300 million ballroom. But as people see photographs and videos of the rubble where it stood, many are searching, 'What was in the East Wing?'
The East Wing of the White House was originally built in 1902 under President Theodore Roosevelt as primarily a visitor entrance for social events. But that East Wing was much smaller than the version that was ripped down this week. In 1942, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a fortified underground bunker built in case of air strikes during World War II.
