TAOS — After years of investigation and a lengthy review, a special forensic audit in collaboration with the New Mexico Office of the State Auditor into suspected financial misconduct at Taos Municipal Schools is set to be released to the public.

The special audit, initiated in 2023, covers the period between Jan. 1, 2017, and Oct. 13, 2022, after the district received and reported "allegations of procurement misconduct, potential kickbacks, and bribes," according to a news release from the school district.

School officials told The Taos News this week the audit report reveals staggering levels of alleged corruption and financial wrongdoing among some district employees and outside contractors.
