JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Cross country often brings out the greatest of sportsmanship among its competitors.

After Owen Johnson crossed the finish line in first place during Friday’s Class B boys state meet at Parkhurst Campground/Pipestem Reservoir, one of the first people to congratulate the Northern Cass senior on his career-capping win was Jonah Njos.

A senior himself, Njos won back-to-back individual titles for Bowman County in 2023 and 2024.

Last season, the competitor finishing runner-up to Njos was Johnson. This time, Johnson earned his redemption, racing to a time of 15 minutes, 44.4 seconds to claim this year’s individual crown.
