A North-West arts group is "ecstatic" about a redeveloped cultural centre, but says it does not fully heal the wounds from a council's slash-and-burn approach to the sector just four years ago.
The Burnie City Council's redeveloped Burnie Arts centre (formerly the civic centre) will be officially opened on November 10.
"We're ecstatic that that's finally happened, and a big dose of federal money was put into that," stARTs North-West (formerly the Burnie Arts Council) president Lyndal Thorne said.
"However, I think there is still quite a deep wound across the artistic community in regards to how that was handled and having a brand new building doesn't necessarily correct that."
Ms Thorne was referring to a period in 2021 when the council, under then-general manager Simon Overland, cut
