A beloved annual tradition for 4th grade classes in the Porterville area is the hands-on learning experiences students have at Butterfield Stage Days held at Zalud Park in October.
This year, 1430 students were expected to participate from 4th grade classes from Porterville Unified, Burton School District, Alta Vista District, Terra Bella District, Hope District, and St. Anne's School.
Eleven Cadets from Porterville Military Academy helped out during the day, said Cadet Isaish Torres, who watched activity on El Granito Street.
Cal Fire Firefighters explained at stations how they protect people from wildfires, and the various tools they use, and how they can create fire breaks around houses.
