Sonny Joseph walked into a visit with an ear, nose and throat specialist last October knowing something was wrong.

Nothing seemed too serious in the first 15 minutes. But soon after, the doctor told Joseph the worst. The then-athletic director at Walkersville High had an aggressive form of throat cancer, and he needed to begin treatment as soon as possible.
