LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Supreme Court overturned a murder conviction in the death of a 3-year-old and her father.

Kevon Lawless was found guilty of killing Brandon Waddles and his daughter, Trinity Randolph in August 2020 in the Jacobs neighborhood.

The Kentucky Supreme Court reversed his verdict stating there should have been a mistrial.

“I think the Supreme Court got it right even though it’s upsetting to the victims’ families," said Louisville attorney and legal analyst Nick Mudd. "It would not surprise me if this case was tried again.”

The Commonwealth’s attorney said the fight for justice is not over.
