MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The effort to remove Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert from office is back where it was weeks ago due to the cancellation of mediation between the parties.

A judge dismissed the second attempt to oust Halbert in November 2024. The court ruled that the attorney hired by the Shelby County Attorney to file the ouster petition did not have jurisdiction to file such a request.
The Shelby County Attorney appealed that decision and brought the case before an appeals court. Before the court could hear the case, both sides agreed to mediation to try and resolve their conflicts.
