LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department honored dozens of its own at the 12th annual Best of the Badge Gala held at the Wynn resort on Friday.
The department recognized 49 officers, as well as a K9 officer, for their bravery in several different incidents, including two high-profile cases, the mass shooting at UNLV, and a shooting at the Las Vegas Athletic Club.
On May 16, officers responded to the Las Vegas Athletic Club on Rainbow Boulevard, near Lake Mead Boulevard, after a report of a person with a weapon shooting inside the gym, police said.
8 News Now spoke with LVMPD Officer Aaron Javier, who was one of three officers who helped take down the gunman at the LVAC.
