BEMIDJI — About 10 minutes after the Bemidji State men’s hockey team knocked off Augustana in overtime, head coach Tom Serratore was asked how good it must feel for the fans to see Adam Flammang back in the lineup.

“Four coaches were happy, too,” Serratore said with a laugh.

Injuries are part of sports, and hockey is not immune. However, in Flammang’s instance, injuries provide a level of fear that goes beyond winning and losing.

On Oct. 4 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Flammang was on the wrong end of a scary hit that sent him to the ice motionless. With the help of Bemidji State athletic trainer Heidi Krueger, along with the St. Cloud State training staff, Flammang was stabilized on a stretcher and ambulanced to the local hospital.
