HONOLULU (Island News) -- The number of traffic deaths across the state in 2025 as of Friday has surpassed the total number of traffic deaths from last year.
106 people have died on Hawaii roads as of Oct. 24, 2025, which exceeds the 102 traffic deaths for the entirety of 2024. This year’s fatalities include drivers, passengers, pedestrians, motorcyclists, scooter riders, bicyclists and people on non-traditional vehicles like skateboards, foot scooters and Utility Task Vehicles.
As the state has passed the “sobering milestone,” the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is asking all road users to remember the following:
Reduce distractions – Don’t drive, ride or walk while using your phone or devices. Obey traffic laws such as speed limits, traffic signals, signs and lane markings
