According to the Plumas County Search and Rescue, officers responded to a vehicle accident near North Shore Campground on Highway 36. Both occupants of the vehicle were found dead in the steep terrain below the roadway.

"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this heartbreaking loss," search and rescue said. "We extend our deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time."

The crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.
