Middlesbrough and Wrexham meet for the very first time in league action at the Riverside on Saturday, with only three previous clashes between the two sides all coming in cup competitions.

Wrexham edge the head-to-head record by two wins to one, but manager Phil Parkinson’s memories of coming up against Boro are less fond. He’s lost all four of the games he’s managed against Boro - who he actually supported as a boy.

That might come as a surprise to many. Parkinson was born in Chorley, Lancashire and as a player came through the youth academy at Southampton, which is where he credits his more southern accent. But the former Sunderland boss actually spent much of his childhood growing up in Stockton .
