Nuno Santos finished 18 th in the 41 st world shore angling championships in Portugal and the Glasgow-based fisherman was the highest ranked angler in the five-strong Scotland team.

The event was won by French angler Frank Peene, the first fishermen to win the world championship title three times, and next best Scot was Billy Buckley (Uddingston) who was 31 st .

Neil McMillan (Ayr) finished in 74 th place with Barry McEwan (Port Seton) No 81 and Calum Culbert (Aberdeen) 93 rd out of 114 competitors.
