HAMPTON, Va. — The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue responded to a fire alarm at Golden Years Assisted Living Facility at 40 Hunt Club Boulevard early Saturday morning.

The fire happened at 4:49 a.m. When crews arrived, they found smoke inside the building. Staff and emergency responders immediately began evacuating residents. In total, more than 70 residents and two staff members were safely moved to the Northampton Community Center, with extra help from the Newport News Fire Department. Two people were also taken to Sentara Careplex Hospital for non-fire-related care.
