PROVIDENCE FORGE, Va. — A coal train derailment in New Kent County has resulted in cancellations for Amtrak trains between Newport News and Richmond.

The derailment of the CSX train happened about 3:10 p.m. Saturday near Providence Forge. A CSX spokesperson said there were no injuries as a result of the incident, no hazardous materials being transported, and no danger to the community.

“Safety will be our highest priority as our teams work to secure the site, recover the equipment and product, and completely restore the area,” the spokesperson said.

Amtrak reported that due to the derailment blocking the tracks, train 124 between Newport News and train 99 between Richmond and Newport News are canceled. Bus transportation is being arranged for customers.
