BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The city of Birmingham held its annual AWAKEN event on Friday, Oct. 24.
AWAKEN is organized each year by the Division of Social Justice and Racial Equity . The 2025 program theme was “Art as Resistance – Awakening Justice Through Creativity” and held at the Birmingham Museum of Art .
The city describes the AWAKEN event as “a celebration of local changemakers who use creativity, advocacy and service to advance social justice and community progress.”
AWAKEN is held each year during Magic City Classic Week. The city of Birmingham says the event was created to spark meaningful dialogue, reflection and education around Birmingham’s enduring legacy of activism and leadership.
