Vancouver movie fans were blindsided Wednesday by the news the historic Park Theatre was closing this weekend. Article content
But it may not be closed for long.
It looks like the 84-year-old art deco theatre at 3440 Cambie St. is going to be taken over by the owners of the Rio Theatre at Broadway and Commercial Drive.
Contacted Thursday, Corinne Lea of the Rio said: “We’re going to be putting out a press release next week about it, so I can’t say anything until that time.”
The Cineplex chain has been running the Park for a dozen years, but is moving out Oct. 26. In an email, Alannah O’Farrell of Cineplex said the company will install its 70 millimetre projector at another theatre.
Cineplex didn’t own the property, it leased it from Acorn Heritage Holdings and 886622 Ontario Limited
