The “atmospheric river” is here; it’s going to be a wet and windy Saturday in the Portland area.
A wind advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday. South winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected. The advisory covers the Portland-Vancouver area, the southern Willamette Valley and Cascade foothills in southern Washington, northern Oregon and central Oregon.
The weather service warns that outdoor objects, like garbage cans, need to be secured so they don’t blow around, and tree limbs could be blown down causing power outages.
There’s a 100% chance of showers in the Portland area, and a thunderstorm is possible, according to the weather service. Between one-quarter and one-half inch of rain is forecast. The high will be about 55 degrees
