NORRIS, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Museum of Appalachia’s Heritage Days helps students learn about East Tennessee history in an exciting way.

Friday marked the first day of the four-day event, kicking off the season with live music and the smell of campfire filling the air.

Students got to help with hands-on activities like apple butter churning, basket making and corn shucking while learning about the history and customs of Southern Appalachia.

“It’s really a great opportunity for us to share Appalachian history and culture with students and with families,” said Development Director at the Museum of Appalachia Will Meyer. “People have a great time because it really is just like stepping back in time and seeing history kind of come to life, it’s not just a guided tour of the museum.”
