SALT LAKE CITY — A man was arrested Thursday after dragging an officer with a stolen truck and fleeing into a field after being caught illegally dumping garbage, according to police.

Ray Daniel Thompson, 29, was found with an armful of garbage and a stolen truck outside of a house at 2241 S. 8000 West in Magna on Monday. Officers told him to drop the garbage and sit down away from the truck, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Police said Thompson dropped the garbage on the ground, but refused to listen to the rest of the officer’s commands and instead ran into the truck.

The affidavit said the officer followed him to the truck, holding onto the driver’s side open window in an attempt to get control of Thompson. Instead, Thompson punched the officer in the face.
