Bailey Zappe could be one play away from getting back on the field at Gillette Stadium.
Cleveland elevated the former Patriots quarterback from their practice squad for Sunday’s game in Foxborough, while adding Shedeur Sanders to the injury report with a back injury. The backup quarterback is now questionable.
Zappe had been Cleveland’s third-stringer following the Joe Flacco trade, behind Sanders and starter Dillon Gabriel.
A Patriots fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Zappe once ignited a quarterback controversy with Mac Jones. Over the course of his first two seasons in Foxborough, Zappe started eight games and appeared in 14.
