WOLFVILLE — Braden Calvert forced a decisive match in the best-of-three men's final at the Home Hardware Canadian Curling Pre-Trials with an 8-5 win over Jordon McDonald on Saturday afternoon.
Calvert put the match away with steals of tow in the eighth end and one in the ninth.
McDonald beat Calvert 10-5 in the series opener Friday night.
The third match between the Winnipeg skips is set for Sunday.
Earlier, Edmonton's Selena Sturmay opened the women's final with an 8-5 win over Victoria's Kayla MacMillan. The second match was scheduled for Saturday evening, and a decisive game would be played Sunday if necessary.
The men's and women's winners of the pre-trials move on to the Montana's Olympic Curling Trials next month in Halifax.
