TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo Fire and Rescue Department firefighters were dispatched to a home on Belmont Avenue near Hoag Street in central Toledo just before 4 p.m. on Saturday when smoke was spotted by the home’s owner, who lives nearby.
According to a battalion chief on scene, the fire was put out quickly and caused minimal damage. Firefighters did however discover the “back third” of the home was collapsed due to disrepair, not as a result of the fire.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no injured, and a dog that was tied up outside of the home was able to be freed by a neighbor.
TFRD says the fire may have been caused by a space heater that had been left on in a front room of the home, but an arson investigator was also summoned to the scene.
