After having to make a last-minute move indoors, Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow (HOTT) held its annual Día de los Muertos event Saturday.
Although there wasn’t the extravagant parade that many in Emporia have become accustomed to over the years, Casa Ramos was buzzing with a live mariachi band and the La Catrina contest, bringing the imagery and culture associated with the Day of the Dead celebration.
“We might have fewer vendors and support coming in today, but the support is wonderful, and I think the experience is a good one,” said HOTT President Mike Torres. “You see the flowers and ofrendas and Rainbow Sanctuary still here, so we still have that community piece.”
