Southern football fell to Florida A&M 43-35 on Saturday at A.W. Mumford Stadium. Here are our takeaways from the game:
Tackle issues persist
The fourth quarter was where Southern’s failures on defense were most exposed. It gave up three explosive touchdowns, two of which were rushing, and let skill players largely go untouched. The tackling angles taken in that period were grotesque. With the last two scores Southern allowed, defenders looked either gassed or just uninterested in giving a full effort.
Trey Holly excels
The LSU transfer is not only the No. 1 running back for Southern, but is accepting a much higher usage than he has in the first five games of the season. Without its second-best running back, Mike Franklin, Holly has had back-to-back games with season-high carries. The 5
