Needing to win its final four games to preserve hopes of returning to the postseason, Saint Francis took the first step, stopping a 2-point conversion try by Saint Xavier inside the final minute to preserve a 28-27 victory Saturday in Chicago.

“Our kids just have good character, and they keep fighting,” USF coach Adam Sherman said. “There’s not a lot of infighting, there’s not a lot of egos. They just keep playing, they keep fighting. They keep playing and fighting together.”
