The way the fourth quarter started would have doomed Alabama a season ago. Maybe even earlier this season.

It almost did Saturday.

First, the Crimson Tide muffed a punt. Then the South Carolina offense, with prime field position, scored a touchdown to go up eight points.

Past Alabama teams might have, and often did, unravel in those situations under coach Kalen DeBoer .

But not this time.

The Crimson Tide responded, scoring on the ensuing drive, forcing and recovering a fumble on the next, then scoring another touchdown in the final minute of the game. As a result, No. 4 Alabama secured a 29-22 victory over South Carolina on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
