Severe storms and hail have battered Brisbane and parts of south-east Queensland on Sunday – with Ipswich recording four-centimetre hailstones – and the threat of flash flooding is possible.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned on Sunday of extreme weather across the south-east from early afternoon.

“They could bring damaging winds, large hailstones … heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding,” senior meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said.

“So our advice to everyone is this is going to be potentially dangerous.

“Keep an eye on the radar if you can. Keep an eye on any warnings we might issue.”

Wind gusts of 96km/h were recorded at Archerfield Airport at 4:34pm and 94km/h gusts at Amberley RAAF at 4:13pm.
