BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Walleye captain Brandon Hawkins tallied a hat trick as Toledo topped the Bloomington Bison 6-2 on Saturday night.
Hawkins scored a goal in all three periods, including one on a penalty shot in the second period, before a crowd of 3,008 at Grossinger Motors Arena.
Walleye rookie goaltender Nolan Lalonde earned the victory in his pro debut, finishing with 33 saves on 35 shots.
Perrysburg native Tanner Dickinson, who signed with the Walleye during training camp, scored his first goal in a Walleye uniform to give Toledo a 3-0 lead early in the third period.
Lalonde, a 21-year-old who played in 167 junior hockey games in the Ontario Hockey League, carried a shutout into the third period with 22 saves on 22 shots.
