ADAMS, N.D. — Lillian Bakke didn't let a little thing like the absence of running water keep her from her weekly hair appointment in Adams.

"I've been coming here since 1936," Bakke said. So instead of canceling her appointment when beautician Kathy Drevecky called to tell there was no water at Nygard's Beauty Shop, Bakke just shampooed at her Park River home and headed for the beauty shop with her hair still wet.
