Two weeks after turning to drink when his Bathurst 1000 campaign ended in disaster, Chaz Mostert has secured a famous Gold Coast double.

The Ford flyer backed up a stunning victory on Saturday to again pip Supercars championship leader Broc Feeney in a heavyweight battle around the streets of Surfers Paradise.

In just 24 hours, Mostert took his win tally for the season from one to three and shot himself into title contention in the new finals format.

Starting from third on the grid, the 33-year-old edged past pole-sitter Feeney when he had the better of their near simultaneous pit stops on lap 57.

Mostert also had to deal with the safety car coming out with eight laps remaining when veteran James Courtney crashed into a tyre wall.
