Drivers are being told the humble potato could be used to cure condensation during their morning routines - by preventing ice formation on car windows.

According to MotorMatch experts, the starch molecules in potatoes create a hydrophobic barrier when applied to glass surfaces. "It might sound unusual, but rubbing the cut side of a potato onto your windscreen can make a big difference," they said.

"The starch forms a protective film that stops moisture from sticking to the surface," explains MotorMatch. The RAC advises: "Start the heater off cold, then slowly increase the temperature as the air dries out, rather than overloading the cabin with hot, ‘wet’ air.
