Stylistically, Friday night's varsity football game couldn't have been much different, the La Quinta Blackhawks showcasing their punishing ground game while the Shadow Hills Knights put an up-tempo passing attack on display.
The result was an entertaining see-saw affair that came down to an onside kick in the final seconds. When Shadow Hills' onside kick bounced out of bounds with just 23 second left, it gave La Quinta a 36-33 home victory that vaulted the Blackhawks into a tie for first in the Desert Empire League.
