French authorities have detained two suspects in connection with the recent jewel heist at the Louvre museum, according to AFP.
The arrests follow last week’s seven-minute robbery during which eight of France’s priceless crown jewels were stolen. One of the suspects was apprehended at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport while allegedly attempting to board a flight to Algeria, according to local media.
The Louvre went into lockdown on Sunday after a group of thieves carried out the audacious daylight robbery. Dressed in high-visibility vests, the gang reportedly used a mechanical ladder attached to a lorry to reach a first-floor balcony, then smashed through a window of the Galerie d'Apollon with power tools before fleeing on scooters.
