SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — A devastating fire early Sunday morning in Arlington Township claimed the lives of two adult dogs and a litter of 19-day-old mastiff puppies. The blaze broke out in an outbuilding located at 50205 M-43 around 4:50 a.m., southeast of South Haven.
Firefighters from Bangor were assisted by crews from Columbia Township and South Haven Area Emergency Services. When they arrived on the scene, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames, making rescue efforts impossible.
Investigators believe the fire was likely caused by a heat lamp placed near straw bedding, which may have ignited and spread rapidly throughout the building. The outbuilding was completely destroyed in the fire.
No human injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
