KALAMAZOO, MI — Dave Bruzza couldn’t tell you what he, Paul Hoffman and Michael Arlen Bont played at the first official Greensky Bluegrass show on Oct. 31, 2000.
What he does remember is that it took place upstairs at a rental house he was living in on Kalamazoo’s Wall Street.
The other band he was in at the time — Seeds and Stems — played a set in the basement. Numerous kegs were gone through. There was a bonfire. Things got a little bit wild. And thankfully, the cops never showed up.
Fast forward 25 years.
Seeds and Stems is a mere relic of the past. That Wall Street home has long since been torn down and turned into a community garden. And the trio that laid the foundation for Greensky that Halloween night is going stronger than ever.
