Cordons were put in place and a number of residents evacuated in Campion Court in the Waterside area of the city.

A rest centre for residents was been opened at the nearby Hillcrest Community Centre.

The PSNI on Sunday said the security alert had ended and that they were “thankful” that the device did not “detonate before being discovered”.

Detective Inspector Hanbidge said: “Shortly after 5.35pm on Saturday, 25th October, we received a report that a device had been left at a residential property in the Campion Court area.
