Sophie Devine explained the reason why she refused her teammates from giving a guard of honour before the New Zealand vs England clash on Sunday, October 26. Devine brought down the curtains on her ODI career with the White Ferns' final league game in Vizag, which they ended up losing .
The all-rounder was given a guard of honour by both teams at the end of the match and she received a signed jersey from the England team. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Devine said she thought it would be weird to get a guard of honour right now as she is still playing T20 cricket.
Devine said that she would have preferred to keep her retirement low-key and but admitted that her early announcement sort of set thing up.
