Octopus Energy has suggested several ways people can reduce their bills in light of Ofgem's two per cent price cap increase.

The energy firm said people could save £60 a year by reducing the time they spend in the shower.

Studies suggest many people spend up to 10 minutes washing, but slashing this to four could significantly cut energy consumption.

The online guidance from Octopus Energy stated: "Keeping your shower time to just four minutes could save a typical household £60 a year."

It said its tips came from the "expertise of our wide-ranging team of scientists, engineers and heat specialists", adding: "We've got real feedback on how useful they are from more than 250,000 customers."
