Sunday, October 26 is National Tennessee Day.
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development says the day is meant to celebrate the beauty, culture, and innovation that make the Volunteer State special:
"From the colorful fall foliage in the Smokies to the vibrant energy of our cities and communities, there’s no better time to appreciate all that Tennessee has to offer. Here’s to the people, places and industries that keep our state thriving — and to another beautiful Tennessee fall."
Tennessee became the 16th state admitted into the Union on June 1, 1796.
You can read about the state's early military history on the Tennessee Department of Military's website.
The mockingbird, small mouth bass, and firefly are just a few of the state's symbols.
