Strong winds are sweeping across western Nevada and the Sierra, prompting a wind advisory for the Reno-Carson City-Minden area from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, and up to 75 mph in foothill locations, could cause travel difficulties for high-profile vehicles, knock down tree limbs and lead to isolated power outages.

A lake wind advisory is also in effect for Pyramid Lake, where gusts up to 55 mph and waves of 3 to 4 feet are expected. Lake Tahoe will see similarly rough conditions, with waves of 2 to 5 feet and hazardous boating weather for small watercraft.
