Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley (26) runs against the New York Giants in the second quarter at Lincoln Financial Field.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley exited his team's Week 8 game against the New York Giants with a groin injury.

Barkley appeared to pull up lame after handling a carry at the end of the third quarter. He headed to the blue medical tent to be examined by Eagles trainers and wasn't on the field to start the fourth quarter.

Here's what to know about Barkley's status.

Saquon Barkley injury update

Barkley did not seem overly concerned about his groin injury when asked about it following the game.

"I wasn't worried about it," Barkley told reporters. "I came off, but I've dealt with this before. Nothing crazy."

Barkley further elaborated that he "went out swinging" trying to convince coaches and trainers to let him back into the game. His efforts to do so were unsuccessful.

"They felt like they'd be able to put the game [away] without me, so it was fun to be a cheerleader and see Tank and Will go out there," Barkley said with a smile.

The Eagles originally announced that Barkley was "questionable" to return to Sunday's game because of a groin injury. He did not return to action during the Eagles' 38-20 win, with Tank Bigsby replacing him in Philadelphia's lineup to start the fourth quarter.

Barkley was enjoying one of his best games of the season before exiting. He handled 14 carries for 150 yards and a touchdown while adding 24 yards and another score on four catches.

Eagles RB depth chart

The Eagles have four running backs on their 53-man roster. Below is a look at the pecking order within the group:

  1. Saquon Barkley
  2. Tank Bigsby
  3. Will Shipley
  4. A.J. Dillon

Bigsby will likely lead Philadelphia's backfield as long as Barkley remains out. The Auburn product was acquired from the Jacksonville Jaguars via trade after Week 1 but entered Sunday having logged just one carry for 11 yards with the Eagles.

The Eagles will be on bye in Week 9, so Barkley will have plenty of time to rest before Philadelphia is back in action on "Monday Night Football" in Week 10.
