GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Following an exclusive story here on WITN, the driver who illegally passed a school bus in front of a home while an 11-year-old was trying to board has now been charged.
On Wednesday, WITN spoke with mother Ashley Gerhard and her 11-year-old son, Mason Knopp, as her Ring camera captured the moment a car flew past Knopp’s stopped school bus as he was waiting to cross the street to get on the bus.
According to police, using city traffic cameras, detectives were able to identify a license plate for the car and the registered owner, Ashley Tripp, of Grimesland. According to police, at the same time, Tripp saw the video on WITN and came forward and took responsibility. She has now been charged with failure to stop for a school bus.
