Families nationwide are facing challenging times. As the government shutdown continues, countless government employees are still without pay. This includes thousands of individuals in the state of Oregon who missed their paycheck on Friday.
Nathan Matthews, an employee of the Federal Aviation Administration, and a union representative for the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, is scrambling to make ends meet for his family.
"We got our first pay stub on Friday, that has a net of zero on it, so we're officially just working in I-O-Us. I was able to pay my rent a little bit forward, but you know, my son needs new pants, you know we're worried about putting food on the table, paying EWEB, paying our internet … so it's kind of a free fall."
