CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - The Lowcountry community came together in support of Alzheimer's awareness.

Hundreds of people packed the stands at Joseph P. Riley Park in downtown Charleston on Sunday. People carried flowers to display in the promise garden. Each flower and color represented a personal connection to the disease.

"Really the most inspiring part of our event," executive director of the Alzheimer's Association SC Ashton Houghton said. "Everyone who walks in the gates of the Joe gets a flower that represents the reason why they're walking today."

Attendees like Paula Richnafsky says this event is personal for her.

"My grandfather passed away over 30 years ago from Alzheimer's related complications," Richnafsky said. "So, I'm here today to walk in honor of him or in memory of hi
