A third-period lead had been money for the Windsor Spitfires this season.
That is until Sunday when, for the first time in 11 games this season, the Spitfires watched a third-period lead disappear in what would turn into a 6-5 shootout loss to the Saginaw Spirit at the WFCU Centre.
“Definitely a tough loss,” said Spitfires’ defenceman Conor Walton, whose team came in with a 10-0 record when holding a lead after two periods. “We’ve got to just bear down when we’ve got a lead. It sucks to lose those ones, you feel you’re giving up points. We don’t do that often.”
Let’s put it in perspective
The Spitfires actually had a 4-1 lead late in the second period and had a two-goal lead with just under six minutes left in regulation, but kept opening the door for the Spirit.
