ESPAÑOLA, N.M. (KRQE) – A Northern New Mexico animal shelter is expanding a dog training program at the state penitentiary, after discovering black mold inside their dog kennels this summer.
"We unfortunately found that we had black mold growing in the ceilings above the dog kennels and the puppies," explained Mattie Allen, Director of Communications for Española Animal Humane Society. Right now, the shelter is working to close out sections of its kennels for intensive mold remediation and construction.
"As everybody knows, black mold is a pretty serious problem, and so it was imperative to keep our staff, the community members, plus all of our animals safe. And so we had to figure out a plan pretty quickly," continued Allen.
